My producer went flying the other day. No aeroplane was involved. Instead she was knocked off her feet by a passer-by, quite literally, and regaled us with her (almost) out of body, bullet-time selfie of not being able to stop herself land nose first. Now, she is not a large lady, by any means, but the pavements of Islington are hard and her nose ballooned up like any self-respecting proboscis.
It’s a comparison (of sorts) with the work I’ve been doing. Working in the flatland that is the Google brand. Visually there is much to compare between where Google/Android, iOS and Windows all intersect. And increasingly there is less light in the crack between their respective functions and experiences.
The app I’ve been designing has thrown up some interesting thoughts and issues of interoperability across platforms and how best to compromise with a decent experience for all. The project is behind closed doors for now, but more will be might be revealed later.
Meanwhile we can peruse the usual refrigerated Apple drool around their new iOS. It’s gone even flatter visually, more seemless and integrated into our lives even in it’s new plastic wrapper of the iPhone 5C.
All in all it’s been an interesting month. Riding the train has been made easier working on a peach of a job, throw in experiencing some of the ‘new’ London around Kings Cross and I’m happy.
I just hope my producer’s nose returns to flatland too.
